Ms. Afrika Abney first became a professional visual art consultant in 1992 when she was invited to participate in the Congresswoman's Art Competition.
Ms. Afrika Abney attended Bell from 1991-1993. She graduated in 1993 and was 16 at that time. Years later, Ms. Abney donated the painting shown in the above photo. Additionally, she gave away the clothing articles and jewelry shown in the photo above.
Ms. Abney's art teacher when she was a student was Mr. Jorge Somarriba.

Since 1992, Ms. Afrika Abney has donated some of her artwork to individuals, small businesses, churches, and non profit organizations. She created the above for a brochure and it was entitled: African Heritage. This artpiece was donated after it was used for the brochure in 1992.

She provided pro bono services for various D.C. Public Schools which include Calvin Coolidge High School in 1996 (invited by Ms. Angela Cook) and at Eliot in 2016 (invited by Ms. Ophelia Morgan). Ms. Abney spoke about her visual arts career to a group of students. "Ophelia Morgan is the manager of strategy and logistics at Eliot-Hine Middle School. Elliot-Hine is an International Baccalaureate school. Eliot-Hine has dedicated staff who are committed to serving every student regardless of their history, background, or personal circumstance. In her free time, Ms. Morgan enjoys spending time traveling with her 5-year old and husband. " |
